On October 7-10th, the 2024 International Virtual Conference: A Call to Action to Change Child Welfare is set to convene once again, bringing together an estimated 2,000 participants from 25 countries for its fifth year. This significant gathering represents a growing worldwide movement dedicated to transforming child welfare systems from the ground up.
The conference serves as a platform for practitioners, policymakers, academics, children, families, and communities to collaborate on innovative solutions for improving the lives of children and families affected by child welfare involvement. By sharing knowledge, fostering debate, and building international connections, the event aims to inspire and equip changemakers worldwide.
The conference’s primary objectives include:
- Building a global community: Fostering a network of individuals committed to radical change in child welfare.
- Inspiring action: Motivating and empowering changemakers to drive positive impact.
- Sharing innovative ideas: Highlighting groundbreaking approaches to child welfare practice, policy, and systems.
- Amplifying voices: Providing a platform for children, families, and communities to share their experiences and influence change.
- Promoting evidence-based practices: Sharing research and practical knowledge to inform effective interventions.
With a focus on social, racial, economic, and family justice, the conference seeks to create a more equitable and supportive environment for children and families. This eco-friendly conference offers a diverse range of learning opportunities, including keynote presentations by internationally renowned experts, interactive workshops, facilitated discussion groups, international exchanges, media circles, author spotlights, and dedicated spaces for networking and idea generation. With over 60 hours of concurrent sessions across four days, attendees will have ample opportunities to engage with fellow changemakers and explore innovative solutions.
New for 2024, the conference will introduce Podcast Communities and Action Circles, providing additional platforms for collaboration and impact. “We believe in the power of experiential learning and reflection that bring people into an experience where they can draw meaning, rumble with discomfort, and find a pathway to resolve through actions for change,” Lisa Merkel-Holguin, associate professor of Pediatrics, co-organizer, Together in Truth; and co-director, National Center on Family Group Decision Making.
