Kempe’s Partnership with the Shaylee Foundation

On July 23, 2024, the Kempe Center’s Gwyn Barley, Michelle Davis, and Cassondra Bright joined The Shaylee Foundation for their second Community Forum at the Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center. The purpose of these events is to create safe and inclusive spaces to encourage open and constructive dialogue related to systemic change in child welfare. Stay tuned for more about this exciting initiative in the coming months!

The Shaylee Foundation values authenticity and community collaboration. This means meeting people where they are at – both literally and figuratively; and being in relationship to learn to appreciate each other’s perspectives and get creative in solutions to our shared challenges.

They would bring greater visibility to the Foundation by continuing to sponsor community-driven events, and meticulously placing informational flyers in high-traffic physical areas to maximize exposure. Having greater financial resources would also enhance our ability to leverage the power of social media through targeted advertisements and sponsored posts to reach a wider audience. These activities would also allow us to reach more of the different groups that make up the foster kinship care community.

The Shaylee Foundation has established relationships throughout Colorado including with the Montbello Organizing Committee, Community Language Cooperative, Mile High Festivals, the Kempe Center, local school districts, community clubs, early childhood education centers and many other community organizing groups and non-profits.

Their approach to addressing recruitment challenges involves increasing accessibility for people in the community to get involved. Some ways to do this include sponsored transportation and using local community resources, such as the library and recreation center to host events. Kempe’s partnership with organizations like the Shaylee Foundation is important and provide a broader reach to ensure communities receive the comprehensive care they need.
